A proposal to modify the career pathways and salaries of some Fayette County Water System employees spilled over into a debate over procedures at the Board of Commissioners meeting on June 28.

The conflict arose after the Carl Vinson Institute at the University of Georgia did a follow-up review based on a 2017 classification and salary study and made new recommendations that would give water system employees grade and salary increases based on certifications. The cost of implementing the changes would be just under $16,000 and come from the current water system budget.

The four commissioners present (with Chairman Eric Maxwell absent) disagreed about whether the follow-up study should have been completed without further input from the board, and voted to table the measure until their July 26 meeting.
