Although a nutrition program worker with Fayette County Public Schools tested positive for COVID-19 last week, free meal distribution to students will continue with help from Fayette FACTOR and more than a dozen area nonprofits, churches, businesses and individuals.

A county memo sent to parents on Saturday said the employee worked at Fayette County High School before spring break, and sought medical attention after experiencing symptoms. The employee is recuperating at home, and other staff members were notified. The FCHS kitchen will be closed while being disinfected, but meals will be prepared elsewhere and given out at all seven sites 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting April 13; each student will get two meals on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The school system said its nutrition workers were already following safety precautions during food preparation and distribution, and will now be required to wear face masks as well.
