Fayette County is postponing the installation of a roundabout at the intersection of Antioch and Goza Roads to further study the site.

The Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 on Oct. 25 to accept a recommendation from the Transportation Committee to delay construction for six months to evaluate how the current four-way stop configuration, which was installed last year as an interim measure, is affecting crash and injury rates. The $1.1 million roundabout was unanimously approved by the commission last November as a high-priority safety measure. There have been three accidents and one injury at the intersection since the four-way stop was installed, compared to 10 accidents, 12 injuries and one fatality in the 10 months before the reconfiguration.

The county will still move forward with resurfacing Antioch Road.
