Plans to renovate 75,000 square feet of space at the LaFayette Educational Center in Fayetteville received additional scrutiny at the Board of Education’s May 14 work session.

The board unanimously tabled a vote on the project’s guaranteed maximum price after Facilities Director Mike Satterfield updated the board about the project’s scope and costs. Work has already started to convert the A and B buildings from classroom-type space to offices that will house most of the county’s administrative staff by the end of the year.

At issue was whether adding about $2 million for repaving the parking lot, renovating the façade and making more updates to the VoTech building were expenses to be covered now or in the future.
