The family of a college student from Snellville who disappeared in 2007 has suffered another devastating loss.
Jeremy Wilson, 18, died of asphyxiation on Jan. 17. According to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office, he was found with a plastic bag over his head. Investigators are still trying to determine if his death was a suicide or an accident.
His funeral was held Saturday at Henry Funeral Home in Lithonia.
Wilson was the stepbrother of Justin Gaines, whose Nov. 2, 2007 disappearance gained national attention.
Gaines was 18 and home on a weekend break from the Oconee campus of Gainesville College in Athens when he went to a nightclub with friends.
Later that evening, he called his roommate to pick him up from Wild Bill's nightclub in Duluth, but the friend told Gaines he couldn't, family members said.
His last phone call was made shortly before 2 a.m. He was never seen again.
Volunteers formed search parties to scour the area around Wild Bill's Entertainment Hall in Duluth on foot and with all-terrain vehicles, but turned up no solid clues. His mother, Erika Wilson, quit her job in real estate to search for him full-time, and the family also hired a private investigator.
Erika and Steve Wilson, who have five other children in their blended family, still maintain a website, www.justingaines.com, and solicit tips from the public about their son's disappearance at 1-877-270-9500.
A reward of $25,000 is offered for any information leading to Gaines' whereabouts. A reward of up to $50,000 is offered to anyone supplying information that leads to his safe return.
