The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded Cobb County schools $1.2 million to make its bus fleet more environmentally friendly.
The award, announced Monday, will go toward retrofitting 588 buses to reduce vehicle emissions. Funding is provided under the Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program portion of the stimulus act, as part of a competitive grant program for clean diesel emissions projects.
“This funding will go a long way in helping to bolster the economy and protect public health and the environment by creating green jobs that improve air quality,” said Stan Meiburg, EPA acting regional administrator in Atlanta.
