DeKalb County deputies on Monday arrested a Decatur teen accused of gunning down a Gwinnett County man in an armed robbery.

Iran King, 19, is charged with felony murder and robbery in the June 20 death of Darin Thurman Jr., 21, of Lawrenceville, the sheriff’s office said.

The Lawrenceville resident was found alone, slumped over in the shot-up 2016 Nissan Sentra outside Austin Oaks apartments on Glenwood Road.

The police report said the victim’s 19-year-old brother arrived on the scene 20 minutes after police and said he’d been with the victim during the shooting. The brother said he had fled the scene to dial 911.

They were in DeKalb to meet up with women, the brother said, and then an unknown gunman began firing on the car as they waited in the parking lot.

The sheriff’s office said warrants allege King knocked on the window before opening fire. He was allegedly seen taking a handgun, wallet, cell phone and cash.

King was arrested without incident at his home.
