Two years after Nyyokoki Hendley was killed inside her Lithonia home, a DeKalb County jury found her ex-boyfriend guilty of the crime last week.
But attorney’s for Deron Gude filed a motion in DeKalb County Superior Court on Wednesday for a new trial claiming the verdict was “contrary to the law,” according to court documents.
Gude, 42, was convicted of felony murder, aggravated assault and two weapons charges in the Oct. 11, 2016 killing, court documents show.

Gude’s attorney Michael Katz declined to discuss specifics about the motion for a new trial.
“There were certain issues raised, but I’m not going into them,” he said in a brief phone interview Thursday afternoon.
Police said Gude confessed to killing Hendley, 39, after they got into an argument, the AJC previously reported.
He told police Hendley was “damaging items” in the apartment before they fought over a gun and it discharged in her face as she held it. But the medical examiner’s office finding showed Hendley was shot from more than three feet away.
DeKalb County Superior Judge Linda W. Hunter sentenced Gude to life in prison plus five years. He was found not guilty of a malice murder charge and a drug charge was thrown out.
Gude will remain in the DeKalb County jail until he is transferred to a state prison, his attorney said.
