A temporary employee in the DeKalb County elections office tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday — a development that will likely delay the certification of local results from June 9's primary election.

Results were scheduled to be certified Friday afternoon but the elections office remained closed. County officials said they would ask the state for permission to certify at a later date.

In the meantime, the DeKalb Board of Health recommended a 14-day self-quarantine and a COVID-19 test for all elections office employees who may have come into contact with the diagnosed worker.

Officials said the worker was a temporary employee that began work on June 11.

DeKalb finished counting most election day ballots on June 10, but spent several days tallying the roughly 100,000 absentee ballots it received.
