The DeKalb County Human Services Department is celebrating Older Americans Month this May with free virtual programming for the county’s seniors, according to a press release.
From now through May 29, seniors are invited to participate from the comfort of their homes in approximately 50 classes normally held in person. The virtual platform allows seniors to maintain safe social distancing while interacting with their peers and class instructors. Classes topics include exercise, cooking, computer, foreign language, art and more. Virtual programming has been developed in collaboration with DeKalb County Public Library.

Older Americans’ Month is a national celebration, sponsored by the United States Department of Health & Human Services’ Administration on Community Living. The purpose of Older Americans’ Month is to commemorate the achievements and contributions of individuals 55 years and older within their communities. The 2020 theme is “Make Your Mark,” which highlights the difference everyone can make in the lives of older adults to strengthen communities. This theme was selected to encourage and celebrate countless contributions that older adults make to our communities.
