Birds and squirrels are some of the more common animals that walkers, bicyclists and runners may see in Piedmont Park.

So, you can imagine Christopher Adams’ amazement when he saw a deer roaming near the dog park on Thursday evening.

“I saw people standing around near the deer,” he said. “We stopped and took some video of it.”

The short clip shows the deer trotting near the dog park before walking away. Adams said it wasn't afraid and eventually walked into the woods, so he didn't call police.

Adams, 43, moved to Atlanta three months ago from Rhode Island and said he’s used to seeing deer roam around. He also noted onlookers were respectful of the deer’s space.

“They were just standing there watching it,” he said. “They were being respectful of and not getting too close or petting it.”
