ORIGINAL STORY

A regional restaurant chain’s store in Cobb County will get another review from the health department after it failed its food service inspection.

Krystal at 725 Veterans Memorial Highway in Mableton received at 63, or U, on its April 4 inspection. Anything below a 70 is considered failing.

According to the inspection conducted by the Cobb & Douglas Public Health Department, the restaurant was dinged for a slew of violations. One of the violations include the inspector discovering black mold inside the ice machine and ice bin at the front service counter and drive-thru window.

The report also notes a dead bug, debris and splatter were also found in the ice bin at the front service counter. Black mold was also found on an ice machine scoop. Other violations include:

  • an employee drinking from an open, disposable cup in the prep area;
  • an uncovered package of raw bacon stored under a dusty fan; packages of cheese slices left unwrapped; and cartons of milk and juice left open inside cooler;
  • the most recent inspection report not posted within view of customers in the dining area;
  • wet stacking of food containers;
  • heavy buildup of grease and food bits seen inside coolers, between cooking equipment, under prep table and on counter tops, walls, outlets and storage shelves.

The report also notes the restaurant in “in disrepair or poor condition,” and that the Environmental Health Department is reviewing plans calling for a demolition and rebuild of the eatery.

Krystal said in a statement that it has a follow-up inspection scheduled for Monday, April 8 and are “resolving these issues, as part of Krystal’s ongoing commitment to providing a welcoming customer experience.”
