This is a roundup of recent crimes of note in Cobb County. It is based on arrest warrants, police reports and jail records. At this point, these are allegations by law enforcement.
Woman takes anger out on bedroom door
A woman expressed her frustration with an apartment complex employee’s actions by punching a bedroom door.
According to a Cobb County arrest warrant, the woman was arguing with the lease holder because her belongings were being moved outside the unit when she punched the door to the bedroom. The apartment complex is located in the 1900 block of Hidden Glen Drive in Marietta.
The warrant states the person at the receiving end of the tenant’s rage, the lease holder, locked herself inside a bathroom to stop the encounter. Cobb police charged the woman with criminal trespassing, and she was booked in to the Cobb County Detention Center on Feb. 28. She was released on a $1,320 bond the same day.
Drunk man threatens to shoot Cobb cop
Guns and alcohol do not mix, and when you add a threat to a police officer into the equation, the result will be a trip to jail. One Cobb County man found this out late last month when he was charged with reckless conduct, terroristic threats and discharge of a weapon under the influence.
According to a warrant obtained by Cobb County police, the man allegedly fired two guns several times from his back porch. When an officer arrived at the home on Austell Road SE in Marietta, the man allegedly told the cop that when he fires the weapon, “I will put it to your head” and “laughing today, you will cry later.”
Police determined the man was also intoxicated when he fired the guns. The accused was booked into the Cobb jail on Feb. 27 and remains held with a $8,470 bond.
Customer flashes gun at Waffle House employee
A man who visited Waffle House last month in Smyrna was charged with simple assault after he got into an altercation with an employee that nearly turned physical.
According to an arrest warrant obtained by Smyrna police, the man was asked to leave after pouring his coffee into an ice chest. The man became upset, lifted his coat to reveal a firearm and walked behind the counter to tell the employee, “that’s the last {expletive} time you talk to me again, boy.”
The employees said the customer left the restaurant, but was tracked down about a month later when he returned to the eatery. Smyrna police booked the suspect into its jail on March 1, and he was released the same day on a $1,870 bond.
Known firebug burns own wheelchair while wife sleeps
A man who police say has a history of starting fires inside his home was charged with an incident that endangered his own and his wife’s safety.
Cobb police said the male burned a bag and his wheelchair March 2 inside his home off Johnson Ferry Road in east Cobb, according to an arrest warrant. The incident occurred while his wife was sleeping in an upstairs bedroom, the warrant adds.
She also told police her husband has “on multiple occasions in the past started fires inside the home that she has been forced to put out.”
The husband was charged with reckless conduct, and was booked into the Cobb County Detention Center on March 2. Jail records show he remains held on a $2,420 bond.
Accused thief steals deodorant from store
A man apparently worried about personal hygiene swiped quite a few bars of deodorant last week when he stole $114 worth of the product from Food Depot at 250 Windy Hill Road in Marietta.
The man was charged with theft by shoplifting following the March 3 incident. Once taking the deodorant, he bypassed the checkout counters and made a beeline for the front door, according to an arrest warrant.
Police discovered the deodorant hidden inside his jacket, pockets and pants leg. The man, who was also charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce, was booked into the Cobb County jail on March 3 and remains held with a $2,420 bond.
Hotel patron torched room so police would “take him seriously”
A man who was renting a room at the Budget Inn at 1850 Blair Bridge Road in Austell allegedly set his clothes and blinds on fire over the weekend.
An arrest warrant obtained by Cobb County police alleges the man’s actions damaged the air conditioning unit, blinds, carpet and some furniture. The warrant also said the man believed “people were behind his mirror and wanted police to take him serious(ly).” He called 911 dispatchers eight times, with each call “culminating in threats of violence if he was not obeyed.”
He was charged with arson in the first degree, terroristic threats, criminal damage to property in the first degree and unlawful conduct/911 call. Police arrested the accused arsonist on March 3 and he remains held without bond.
