Shortly before 12:30 p.m., a driver lost control of a sedan and struck a motorcycle, ejecting its operator. The van swerved to avoid hitting the motorcyclist and overturned, trapping the driver and multiple occupants. The driver was dead when police and emergency workers arrived, and all passengers were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Gwinnett County police. The sedan driver and motorcyclist were also hospitalized with injuries.
The identity of the van driver is being withheld until next of kin can be notified. That could take some time because police believe the driver’s only next of kin live in Central America.
The sedan driver was determined to be at fault in the accident. Charges have not been filed at this time, but the investigation is ongoing and the possibility of criminal charges has not been ruled out, according to a police spokesman. That person has not been publicly identified.
