A week after a man was killed in a double shooting at a Brookhaven apartment complex, police have arrested the man who allegedly fired the fatal shots.

Pierre Gregory Singletary, 34, was booked in the DeKalb County Jail Thursday on murder and aggravated assault charges, according to jail records. Carthel Lamont Johnson, 25, of Covington, was killed in Friday’s gunfire in The Mile apartment complex, according to a Brookhaven police report obtained this week detailing the events leading to the shooting.

A second person, Roderick Lavelle Francois, 34, of Jonesboro, was injured.

The shooting was likely a result of a drug deal gone bad, police said in the report.

Francois told police he and Johnson drove to the Barone Avenue apartment complex to buy marijuana. Once they were inside an apartment, two men they didn’t know tried to rob Francois and Johnson and began firing shots, the police report said.

After the shooting, Francois carried Johnson to his car, placed him in the back seat and drove him to a nearby Waffle House, according to the report. Police found the men there about 3 p.m.

Francois suffered gunshot wounds to his left arm and hip. Johnson was shot in his left upper rib cage; he was taken to Grady Memorial hospital where he later died.
