Gwinnett County police are searching for a man they believe scammed at least two people out of a combined $17,000 by not completing promised roofing jobs.

Eric Lopez is wanted on multiple charges of theft by conversion. Police say he runs a company called Renaissance Construction and offers roofing services, soliciting clients door-to-door and by referrals.

The first alleged victim reported a scam in December 2018. A Lilburn had hired Lopez weeks before to replace her roof after receiving an insurance claim, according to police. Lopez convinced her to sign over the insurance check to him so he could use it on materials, she told police. Lopez never returned to do the job and cut off all contact with the victim, according to police.

While investigating, police found a second alleged victim in Snellville who had been scammed out of $10,000 by Lopez in the same way. The victim signed over an insurance check to Lopez for materials, but Lopez never performed the roofing work or contacted the victim again, according to police.

The lead investigator on the case has taken out warrants for Lopez’s arrest, but Lopez’s current location is unknown to police. They believe Lopez may still be operating in metro Atlanta and that there may be more victims.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Gwinnett County detectives at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. Crime Stoppers tips may be rewarded with up to $2,000 if they lead to an arrest or indictment.
