The nephew of a Gwinnett County woman found dead in a basement apartment earlier this week has been charged with her death, according to police.

Police have charged David Neel Clark with felony murder, aggravated assault and financial transaction card fraud in connection with the death of Dorothy Ann D’Anna.

D’Anna, 63, was found dead in her Suwanee home on Monday by her landlords and a neighbor. Police had been investigating her death as “suspicious.”

Detectives learned that Clark, 52, had been using D’Anna’s card after her death in Alabama and Florida and put out an alert in those states. Detectives then obtained a warrant for Clark’s arrest on financial transaction card fraud, according to a release from Gwinnett police.

Police in Florida notified Gwinnett that Clark was arrested after he attempted to commit suicide on a beach in their jurisdiction.

County police say Clark confessed to his aunt’s murder during an interview with detectives after he had been transported back to Georgia.

Clark is currently in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
