Police across Georgia are participating in #OperationSouthernShield, an anti-speeding campaign running through Sunday in five Southeastern states.

Georgia State Patrol said it is implementing heightened speeding enforcement across the state. County police in Gwinnett and Cobb are also participating, as are Decatur officers. DeKalb and Atlanta police didn’t immediately say if they were taking part, though GSP also patrols interstates in those jurisdictions in addition to local cops.

Decatur officials explained the need for such programs in a Facebook post: national data shows speeding is consistently a factor in fatal wrecks, such as 27 percent 2016.

#OperationSouthernShield is taking place in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
