Watershed Management will soon start construction work at the RM Clayton Water Reclamation Center, 2440 Bolton Road NW, as part of the Water Supply Program currently underway in Atlanta.

The project at RM Clayton includes excavating and lining a pump station shaft, the installation of new piping and rebuilding an existing pump station. There will be controlled blasting between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. during the reconstruction work in order to build the shaft. During the blasting period, there may be an increase in noise, dust, ground movement and truck traffic in the area.

The excavation portion of the job is slated to begin in December; blasting is scheduled to start in January. Construction at the facility will continue until January 2018.

Mining work also has begun on the 10-feet diameter, five-mile tunnel that connects the raw water intake on the Chattahoochee River to the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant and former Bellwood Quarry.

The WSP’s benefits include the increase of Atlanta’s water supply storage capacity to more than 30 days of average usage. The program will also provide raw water storage at the Chattahoochee Water Treatment Plant.
