The crucial Downtown Connector was closed for about an hour due to standing water. But by 5 p.m., northbound and southbound lanes reopened, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Deep flood waters brought traffic to a stop, forcing some motorists to climb on the roofs of cars and wade to safety.

Traffic is stopped in all lanes of I-575, just south of Ga. Highway 92 in Cherokee County.

If you are getting ready to leave the office, be extra careful and be prepared to take a different route. This is not your normal rush hour in metro Atlanta.

Another line of storms is moving through the area, making an already hazardous situation worse.

Traffic in metro Atlanta is expected to get worse for the evening commute. Cobb County alone has closed about 120 roads.

The DOT and local governments have issued these notices of road closures. Keep checking for updates throughout the day.
