A Marietta residential road will be closed through the new year and until March 1, according to Cobb County transportation officials.

Westside Drive between Park Hill Road and South Cobb Drive shuts down on Nov. 1, according to the Cobb department of transportation Facebook.

In return, crews will open a new two-lane road with a sidewalk extending to South Cobb Drive.

Roundabouts became all the rage in traffic calming in Georgia a few years ago. In the decade after 2005, more than 145 roundabouts were built throughout the state.

The project costs $3.3 million of funds from the 2016 Special Local Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST, according to the Cobb DOT database.

On Westside approaching South Cobb, there will be dual left-turn lanes and a right-turn lane.

The existing traffic signal at Beech Road and South Cobb will be removed. A new traffic signal will be installed at South Cobb and Westside.

To get updates, check on the county's traffic map.
