Cobb residents sound off on SPLOST

Cobb Commissioners heard from a packed room of residents Tuesday night at the second public hearing on a proposed six-year penny sales tax extension.

Most of the almost 30 speakers opposed the SPLOST, including James Bell of the Georgia Taxpayers Alliance, who wants a grand jury investigation into money spent on the current six-year SPLOST. Speakers supporting the tax levy talked mostly of money for parks and ball field improvements.

Over the past two months 22 informational meetings have been held throughout the county outlining the proposed extension and projects. Of the 547 comments received by the county in November, 483, or 88 percent were considered supportative.

The commission is scheduled to vote Dec. 7 on whether to put the proposed SPLOST before voters for a referendum March 15.
