Cobb police say woman set up 911 call after missing flight

When she missed her flight, a Cobb County woman allegedly fabricated a story so a neighbor would call 911.

Dolores Cambal, 64, claimed she was suicidal, wanted to stab herself and had chest pains, according to her arrest warrant. But when police and firefighters arrived, Cambal admitted she had no intentions of hurting herself and simply wanted responders to arrive faster, police said.

“The reason she provided for needing police and EMS was that she had missed a flight and wanted first responders to call the airline for her and reschedule her flight,” Cambal’s warrant states. “Accused stated that she would have called 911 but her phone was not working.”

As a police officer left her Marietta-area home Thursday night, Cambal allegedly threw a plastic drinking tumbler at the patrol car to stop the officer from leaving, according to police.

Cambal was arrested and charged with making an unlawful 911 call and terroristic threats and acts. When she was being booked into the Cobb jail, Cambal allegedly threw a rolled up, dirty sock at a police officer, her warrant states. She was then charged with simple battery against police, booking records showed.

Bond was set at $6,000 for Cambal, who remained in jail Wednesday.

It could not be determined immediately whether Cambal had actually gone to the airport and missed her plane, or where she had planned to travel.
