The Cobb County School District is putting out the call for qualified individuals to consider joining its team of bus drivers.
The system, which started its 2019-2020 school year on Thursday, is "seeking professional, safety-minded individuals" transport students to and from school, according to its Facebook page.
Cobb County schools said in a statement that the hiring push is part of its desire “to recruit bus drivers throughout the school year to join our award-winning transportation department, which recently won Georgia's top transportation safety award.”
Some of the requirements for applicants include having a high school diploma or a GED, valid Georgia driver’s license, the ability to sit for prolonged periods of time, upper body mobility and the ability to lift equipment and/or students weighing 40 pounds. Applicants will also be required to complete the Bus Driver Training Program provided by the school district.

The salary range for bus drivers in Cobb County is $17.50 to $24.82 per hour, the district said. Cobb County schools has a student population of about 111,722 students. It says it has about 1,000 buses that run 1,000 daily routes. About 70 percent of its students -- 78,400 -- rely on school buses for transportation. Cobb school buses travel roughly 13 million miles throughout any given school year, the school system said.
