A Cobb County location of a metro Atlanta chain that serves barbecue and seafood has failed a recent health inspection.
This Is It! at 2776 Cumberland Blvd. in Smyrna scored a 62/U on its Sept. 7 inspection. Any score below a 70 is considered failing.
The inspector reported mostly issues with staff not having proper knowledge of food safety techniques, but there were improperly stored foods.
“I had new employees that don’t know the procedures, but of course that’s not (the inspector’s) problem,” said the owner Alfornzo Jones. “I found it to be a bit harsh.”
The inspector said the “person in charge was unaware of any of the 6 illnesses that must be reported to the health department and 3 symptoms to exclude/restrict food employees.”
Also noted in the report were broken thermometers and no lid to cover the restaurant’s main trash.
“I hate that I have to have that 62 up there,” Jones said.
Follow-up inspections are usually done within 10 days of the original evaluation.
