Cobb County citizens are asked to learn more about what the continuation of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) for another six years will mean for the county.

Meetings will be 6-8 p.m. through May 5 on various nights, they are invited to attend any one of about 20 public information Open Houses around Cobb to be better prepared to vote on the matter in November.

A SPLOST is an optional one percent county sales tax used to pay for capital outlay projects proposed by the county government and by participating, qualified city governments within Cobb.

If approved by Cobb voters, the new SPLOST will be in effect from Jan. 1, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2026. The current one-cent SPLOST expires on Dec. 31, 2020.

During the meetings, citizens can learn about the projects being considered, ask questions of leaders of various departments, give feedback on what is being proposed or provide suggestions for other projects.

Double check the list before heading out since there may be some adjustment to the locations in the days and weeks ahead, according to a Cobb County statement.
