Clayton County will hold virtual meetings to discuss the upcoming SPLOST referendum at 1 p.m. Wednesday and again at 11 a.m June 2.

The south metro Atlanta community is hoping to raise $280 million over the next five years if voters approve its latest SPLOST proposal at the ballot box June 9.

The SPLOST will fund a variety of projects, including a new 85,000-square-foot county administration building, a behavioral health crisis center, roof replacement at the Harold R. Banke Justice Center and parks and recreation greenspace acquisition. Other asks include a new helicopter for Clayton Police, a fire station, a police training academy and $55 million in road projects.

The county had planned to hold in-person discussions on the SPLOST earlier this spring but those plans were thwarted when Clayton cancelled all meetings to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
