Hundreds of churches in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church will observe "Action Ministries Sunday" on Sunday.

Action Ministries, which was founded in 1963, offers programs to help the hungry and those with housing and education needs throughout the state. Each day the nonprofit served more than 276 meals and distributed more than 2,276 pounds of food.

“These are challenging times for people in need in Georgia,” said the Rev. John R. Moeller, Jr., president and CEO of Action Ministries said in a statement. “Jobs are still scarce plus many organizations like ours have fewer resources so they are either shutting down or reducing the number of people they serve.”
