The Cherokee County School District is expanding to three schools a pilot program that allows parents to track a child's school bus on the district's website or by using a Versatrans My Stop mobile app for smart phones.
The transportation department began testing the Versatrans system earlier this school year with selected parents, officials said. On March 5, the pilot will expand to Arnold Mill and Johnston elementary schools and Mill Creek Middle School.
The goal is to offer the system to all Cherokee parents at the start of the 2018-19 school year, officials said.
“Providing real-time bus information to parents is an important service we have worked toward for the past two years,” schools Superintendent Brian V. Hightower said. “Knowing whether a bus is on schedule gives parents the option of keeping their children indoors as long as possible on cold mornings and eliminates the worry that comes with not knowing where the bus is when it’s running late.”
