The Cherokee County Juvenile Court has gotten the go-ahead from the county board to apply for a $238,954 federal grant for program intended to steer young offenders away from jail.

The Juvenile Court has received federal grants for the last three years to support its diversion initiatives. The court will partner with Evidence Based Associates LLC to serve 24 youth and their families, according to the court’s response to a request for proposals for the Juvenile Justice Incentive Grant Program.

The “Multisystemic Therapy” program involves the court, EBA and contracted provider Grace Harbour Behavioral Health. A therapist works with middle- and high school-age boys and girls and their families to reduce problem behavior. Clients also are ensured access to mental health, recreational, education and health support services.
