A new wellness center at the Goshen Valley Boys Ranch for boys in foster care, more space for senior services’ home-delivered meals program, and land acquisitions for Habitat for Humanity housing are among the programs for which Cherokee County is seeking federal funding out of this year’s Community Development Block Grant program.
The Cherokee Board of Commissioners recently approved a consolidated plan and annual action plan to be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development with its request for $1.28 million in block grant funds. An executive summary is online at: https://bit.ly/2lwCYlz
Other projects to be funded include helping the Boys and Girls Club provide transportation to activities and a reading program to low- and moderate-income youth; MUST Ministries’ supportive housing efforts; Next Step Ministries buying a vehicle to transport developmental delayed young adults to job training; and playground-supervised visitation for children in foster care by The Children’s Haven.
