Four candidates running for the two open Norcross City Council seats will participate in a debate at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Norcross Community Center ballroom, 10 College St.

Chuck Paul and Hoyt Hutcheson are running for Councilman Craig Newton’s seat. Daniel Watch and Thad Thompson are seeking Councilman Pierre Levy’s seat.

Current Mayor Bucky Johnson will not run for reelection in Norcross after serving in the position since 2008. Longtime Councilman Craig Newton will run for mayor instead. As the only candidate to qualify for the position, Newton will make history as the city’s first African-American mayor.

The council member debate is coordinated by the Progressive Development Committee and will be moderated by Jim Fox. Norcross citizens are encouraged to attend. Citizens with suggested questions for the debate may submit them in advance to foxcom98@yahoo.com.
