Participation in summer programs at Henry County’s five library branches has seen double-digit increases over the same period in 2016, library director Carolyn Fuller told the Board of Commissioners during a recent report.

Fuller cited a number of statistics to illustrate how the library system’s digital resources are being utilized, saying that the past year has seen 60,472 instances of people bringing their own laptops to the county’s libraries to work. Public computer use inside the libraries totaled 44,337 hours in the past year. More than 360,000 print materials have been checked out in addition to 14,000 ebook downloads and 20,000 audio book downloads, according to Fuller.

The library system’s website has seen almost 138,000 hits in that time.

In advance of the Aug. 21 solar eclipse, an indoor planetarium is being developed at Cochran Library Eclipse viewing parties are scheduled for Fairview and Fortson libraries and free solar glasses are being given out at all branches, Fuller said.
