In a press release dated Monday, but sent to the media on Tuesday morning, the Buford City Schools Board of Education announced it has accepted the resignation of Buford High School Principal Lindsey Allen. On the job for less than a year, Allen has stepped down from this position for personal reasons, according to district spokeswoman Kerri Leland.
Allen came on board as principal in March 2019, replacing Ed Shaddix who is now Gwinnett County Public Schools athletic director.
In a letter sent to parents on Monday, Buford Superintendent Robert Downs assured them that everything is under control.
“We realize that this news is unexpected, and we want to assure you that Buford High School is in good hands moving forward.”
Buford Academy Assistant Principal Scott Chafin will serve as the interim BHS principal through the remaining school year. It was not clear why none of the four assistant principals at Buford High School were placed in the interim position. Nor was there any announcement about an interim replacement for Chafin.
The district will begin the hiring process to select a permanent principal.
Chafin was an educator and principal at Worth County High School before taking a role as a program manager at the Georgia Department of Education.
“Mr. Allen was pivotal in the opening of our new high school last year,” said Downs. “We appreciate all that he gave to our school during a time of extensive transition. I wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Allen’s next professional move wasn’t revealed. Leland did acknowledge that he has children in Buford City Schools.
“We are grateful for Mr. Chafin’s willingness to serve in this capacity for the remainder of the school year as we begin the search for a permanent high school principal,” said Downs in a written statement. “His extensive administrative experience coupled with his ties to our community make him an ideal candidate for this transition.”
