A broken air pressure valve caused a sewage spill in southeastern DeKalb County on Sunday, officials said.

The sewage got into a storm drain and entered Honey Creek off Rockland Road in Stonecrest, according to a report from the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management.

The spill was described as “major,” though a follow-up report could alter that designation. The exact amount of sewage that spilled is unknown.

The issue was stopped after a worker turned off the valve about 3 p.m. Sunday.
