While the social distancing guidelines prevented an in-person workshop regarding the redesign of Avondale Estate’s historic district design guidelines, an online solution is now available to view, allowing for residents to provide feedback.

A video presentation and online survey can be accessed at www.surveymonkey.com/r/CY2968J

“This video and yet another survey were not our original approach to this project,” according to city officials. “However, this revised approach allows us to reach more of you and get feedback from more people than an in-person presentation. Please know that this is just one of several opportunities for us to hear from you.”

Earlier this year, the City of Avondale Estates began the process of updating and improving the current Historic District Design Guidelines.

“The historic homes and landscaping anchored by the lake make Avondale Estates one of the most beautiful and well-designed neighborhoods in Atlanta. This community highly values and strives to preserve its unique historic charm and character,” city officials said in a statement to residents. “At the same time, we recognize the need to maintain, update, and adapt our historic homes and buildings for modern day lifestyles and conveniences. The Avondale Estates Historic Design Guidelines seek to establish clear rules that both protect our heritage and enable adaptation. Doing so not only preserves the community’s identity and visual appearance, but it also attracts others and encourages investment in historic areas.”

Lord Aeck Sargent’s historic preservation and urban design practice areas were hired to complete the project.

The survey asks a few quick questions about specific topics mentioned in the presentation along with an opportunity for residents to express their opinion or provide general comments.

City officials will answer questions and post them via the website.
