The public will get a chance to check out planes and exhibits Saturday at a new aviation park at the corner of Atlanta Road and South Cobb Drive.
The Aviation Wing of the Marietta Museum of History will be open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. After this weekend's debut, it will be open the same hours Thursdays through Saturdays. Admission to Saturday’s event is $2 to $3. Children under 10 will get in free. There is no charge planned after this weekend.
There are eight aircraft at the 15- acre site including a C-141, a corporate jet and a Huey helicopter. The museum is outfitting a trailer at the site for exhibit space that will have information about the area’s aviation history. This weekend’s opening was organized by a Kennesaw State University management class.
The Aviation Wing started as the Aviation Museum & Discovery Center which closed a year ago after failing to raise $2 million needed to start construction. The history museum acquired the aviation museum's lease and assets in February.
