An arrest warrant was issued Friday for a hospital security guard wanted in connection with a man's death in August, Cobb County police said.

Authorities said 57-year-old William Darrell West of Marietta was intoxicated when he entered Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell on Aug. 6. They said West hit his head on the floor during a confrontation with a security guard and died of blunt force trauma.

The medical examiner's office investigated the manner and cause of death, and it's taken this long to levy charges, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce told the AJC.

Now Jerry Thomas Evans, 32, of Austell is charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.

Evans is aware of the warrant and is expected to turn himself in with his attorney, Pierce said.
