Women in Municipal Government, a constituency group of the National League of Cities, has honored Auburn Mayor Linda Blechinger with the 2011 Annual Leadership Award.

The award recognizes a local female official for “unique and outstanding leadership in local government,” according to a written statement.

Blechinger, who was elected mayor of Auburn in 2008, received the honor Friday during an award luncheon at the Congress of Cities and Exposition in Phoenix.
