10:42 p.m.: Police said all "major" DeKalb County roads are open, but there is still a need for caution.

10:04 p.m.: MARTA will decide by 11 a.m. Wednesday if conditions allow limited bus service. If buses run, however, service will end at 5 p.m., when temperatures begin to fall again. Rail service will operate Wednesday on a Saturday-Sunday schedule beginning at 4:45 a.m.

8:14 p.m.: Delta Air Lines canceled 800 flights and AirTran canceled 70 flights that were scheduled for Wednesday.

7:48 p.m.: Georgia Department of Education offices will open Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.

7:41 p.m.: Cobb Community Transit local and express bus service Wednesday is canceled. Paratransitt service will be provide for prearranged kidney dialysis patients.

7:35 p.m.: Powder Springs City Hall will be closed Wednesday.

7: 35 p.m.: City of Woodstock Senior Center will be closed Wednesday. Advanced Disposal residential service for Wednesday has been canceled. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday service will be made up next week.

7:34 p.m.:Woodstock city government offices open at noon Wednesday. Woodstock City Council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday will be held as planned.

6:31 p.m.: Zoo Atlanta will be closed Wednesday.

6:14 p.m.: Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed accepted full responsibility for the city's response to the storm in a news conference Tuesday.

6:11 p.m.: Only 26 Georgia Power customers are without power statewide, down from about 200 an hour ago. Ten of those are in Jonesboro, probably caused by ice on limbs, Georgia Power spokeswoman Christy Ihrig said. Four are in Waynesboro near Augusta, which had major outages earlier in the day, and 4 are in Swainsboro.

6:08 p.m.: Decatur city schools are closed Wednesday.

6:05 p.m.: Clayton County schools are closed Wednesday.

5:45 p.m.: City of Conyers Government Offices will open at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Conyers Municipal Court is canceled for Wednesday.

5:33 p.m.: No Cobb County Transit bus express or local service Wednesday because of hazardous road conditions. Scheduled paratransit service will be offered.

5:24 p.m.: John Marshall Law School is closed Wednesday.

5:17 p.m.: Marietta city schools closed Wednesday.

5:12 p.m.: Ga DOT just completed sanding on the I-285 east and west ramps at Flat Shoals and Bouldercrest roads. They are now open, DeKalb police said.

5:10 p.m.: One lane is now open at I-285 east at Chamblee-Dunwoody Road.

5:06 p.m.: Fayette County schools are closed Wednesday.

4:59 p.m.: Woodstock has not had normal trash pick-up service because of the weather. The city will notify its residents and businesses about changes in the pick-up schedule by email on a daily basis. Service missed this week will be made up on your normally scheduled pick-up day next week.

4:52 p.m.: Fulton County schools are closed Wednesday.

4:51 p.m.: DeKalb County schools' public input workshop scheduled for Wednesday at Druid Hills Middle will be rescheduled. No date has been set yet.

4:44 p.m.: Georgia has identified 200 miles of "priority" roads, and 150 miles of those roads have already been cleared, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said at a news conference. Even though some of those roads are state roads, the city is working to clear Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Memorial Drive, Peachtree Road, Piedmont Road and Ponce de Leon Avenue. Roads to hospitals are clear, Reed said. MARTA is going to decide on its level of service around 5:30 p.m., he said.

4:44 p.m.: Cobb County schools are closed Wednesday.

4:43 p.m.: Atlanta Public Schools are closed Wednesday.

4:40 p.m.: DeKalb County schools are closed Wednesday.

4:30 p.m.: Cherokee County schools are closed Wednesday.

4:29 p.m.: Georgia Perimeter College is closed Wednesday.

4:26 p.m.: Gwinnett County schools closed Wednesday.

4:25 p.m.: Mayor Kasim Reed about to speak about Atlanta's weather conditions.

4:16 p.m.: AirTran has canceled more than 50 flights Wednesday. These flights are in and out of Hartsfield and airports including Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia and White Plains, N.Y.

4:12 p.m.: DeKalb County's Budget and Finance Committee meeting will take place Friday, immediately following the Board of Commissioners meeting at 1 p.m.

4:10 p.m.: DeKalb County Recorders Court will be closed Wednesday. Court officials said they will be in contact with the state Department of Driver Services to ensure no one will be penalized for court dates, suspension or warrants scheduled between Monday and Wednesday of this week.

4:09 p.m.: The Central DeKalb Senior Center Town Hall Meeting will be rescheduled to a later date that hasn't been determined.

4:06 p.m.: Georgia State University is closed Wednesday.

4:01 p.m.: Peachtree City government offices, including the municipal court, will reopen Wednesday.

3:56 p.m.: Workers at Sears distribution center in Pendergrass are expected to return to work Wednesday. The facility is expected to be fully operational, a spokeswoman told the AJC. Deliveries are being rescheduled, said Kim Freely, a spokesperson for Sears Holding in Hoffman Estates, Ill., a suburb of Chicago.

3:54 p.m.: Cobb Board of Education work session postponed until Friday, Jan. 14 at 9:30 a.m.

3:43 p.m.: Georgia Tech is closed Wednesday.

3:42 p.m.: Paulding County Schools Closed Wednesday. 12-month employees are to report at 10 a.m., Channel 2 Action News is reporting.

3:39 p.m.: Gov. Nathan Deal said at an afternoon news conference Tuesday that the icy conditions that have paralyzed much of the state and its roadways aren't going away anytime soon.

3:28 p.m.: Publix Super Market stores in metro Atlanta will close at 4 p.m. The stores are expected to open at 9 a.m. Wednesday, a spokeswoman said.

3:08 p.m.: Gwinnett Technical College is closed Wednesday.

3:07 p.m.: Solid waste collections are delayed in Atlanta. The city will begin collection of routes as road conditions improve, according to a note posted by city officials on Twitter.

3:02 p.m.: I-285 east and west bound ramps remain closed at Flat Shoals and Bouldercrest roads. Also, all lanes on I-675 south near I-285 are shut down.

2:59 p.m.: The ramp from I-285 south to 78 east is now closed because of a tractor-trailer that has jack-knifed.

2:57 p.m.: DeKalb Zoning Board of Appeals will be postponed to a later date that has yet to be determined.

2:56 p.m.: DeKalb County Board of Commissioners will be postponed until Friday, Jan. at 1:00 p.m.

2:53 p.m.: Carroll County schools are closed Wednesday, Channel 2 Action News is reporting.

2:50 p.m.: Gov. Nathan Deal has called a news conference at the Capitol for 3 p.m. to discuss the weather.

2:25 p.m.: The DeKalb County commission meeting will be postponed until 1 p.m. Friday. "The treacherous road conditions and icy sidewalks would put the public and staff at risk, so we are not going to chance it," said Presiding Officer Larry Johnson.

2:23 p.m.: Tuesday night's Clayton County commission meeting has been canceled.

2:13 p.m.: Buford city schools will be closed Wednesday.

2:03 p.m.: Tonight's Atlanta Hawks game vs. the Milwaukee Bucks will be postponed until March.

1:35 p.m.: Forsyth County schools will be closed Wednesday.

12:43 p.m.: The latest band of light snow has reached downtown Atlanta.

12:20 p.m.: Wednesday's meeting of the state Board of Regents has been canceled.

12:10 p.m.: Capt. Herb Emory in the AM 750 and now 95.5 FM News/Talk WSB Traffic Center reports that it is snowing again in Douglasville. Light snow is also falling in west Cobb County.

11:50 a.m.: Authorities in Conyers have reopened a single eastbound lane of I-20 in Rockdale County. Westbound traffic is being routed off I-20 at West Avenue and back onto the interstate at Sigman Road.

11:29 a.m.: The University of Georgia will be closed on Wednesday.

11:10 a.m.: The number of Georgia Power customers without electricity has been reduced to 950 statewide, with most of those in the Waynesboro area. About 300 EMC customers in middle Georgia are without power.

11:00 a.m.: Cobb County's administrative offices opened today at 10 a.m. Additionally, the Cobb County Central Library, Mountain View Library and Kennesaw Branch Library will be open today.

10:39 a.m.: The regularly scheduled board meeting for the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, will be postponed until Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.

10:31 a.m.: Simon Malls are scheduled to open at noon today, but at least one has already announced it will be keeping its doors closed another day.Town Center at Cobb will not open, and Perimeter, Cumberland, North Point and Southlake malls -- all owned by General Growth Properties -- will also stay closed. Northlake Mall will also be closed.

10:24 a.m.: Clayton County Sheriff Kem Kimbrough is running operations from an airport thousands of miles away. Kimbrough said he flew to California last week for a conference, but has been unable to return to Atlanta."I've been trying to get back for two days," Kimbrough told the AJC. "They flew me to Utah and now we're getting transferred to Houston, but we'll probably be stuck there for days too."

10:20 a.m.: A U.S. Postal Service spokesman said residents should not expect to receive mail Tuesday. Trucks are having trouble getting to major processing plants to pick up mail and take it to delivery centers, Michael Miles, USPS spokesman for the Atlanta area, told the AJC.

10:13 a.m.: DOT announcement: "Georgia DOT maintenance forces, with the assistance of and escorted by Georgia State Patrol, has begun working on I-285 beginning at I-75. Maintenance crews will lay salt, calcium chloride, gravel and liquid deicer on I-285 eastbound and westbound from I-75 west toward Riverdale Road. While the crews are working in this area, all entrance ramps will be blocked by law enforcement; however, motorists already on I-285 or those wishing to exit I-285 will be allowed to do so.  Maintenance crews and law enforcement will then begin working on I-285 EB and WB; moving in an eastern direction toward I-675 in Clayton county and I-20 in Dekalb County. Again, all entrance ramps will be closed in phases as the convoy moves eastward. This operation will continue until I-285 is clear in both directions."

10:05 a.m.: UPS again has suspended pickup and delivery service in metro Atlanta. FedEx has done the same.

10:00 a.m.: Cobb County's tax commissioner says her office and all tag offices in Cobb County will be closed Tuesday due to weather.

9:10 a.m.: Atlanta police Sgt. Curtis Davenport says there have been 415 reports of wrecks in the city since 8 p.m. Sunday, with 22 of those crashes involving minor injuries.

8:58 a.m.: The freezing rain advisory, which was due to expire at 9 a.m,  has been extended through noon for metro Atlanta and all areas of the state north of a line from Franklin to Eatonton to Washington. The National Weather Service said patchy freezing drizzle will result in additional light accumulations of ice on roadways.

8:47 a.m.: Quick Transit buses in Clayton County. The private company said it did not know  when service would resume.

8:18 a.m.: The number of EMC customers without power in middle Georgia has climbed to 1,153.

7:43 a.m.: Cobb Community Transit buses will not be running on Tuesday. CCT had already canceled Express buses, but had hoped to begin running local routes at noon. Tuesday morning, the decision was made to also cancel local routes.

7:05 a.m.: The state Department of Transportation says it has closed the southern arc of the Perimeter. Here's the statement from the DOT:

Georgia DOT crews are currently facing very difficult and dangerous conditions around Metro Atlanta and specifically on the southern parts of I-285. Travel is impossible in many spots, so I-285 south of I-20 is currently closed. Crews are battling at least one inch of Ice on interstate roads and sustained temperatures below freezing causing extremely hazardous driving conditions throughout the metro region. Dangerous icing conditions persist. H.E.R.O. trucks are rerouting traffic where possible in an attempt to clear the roads for the work crews to treat the interstates.

6:55 a.m.: A new wreck has shut down most lanes of I-75 southbound near Frey Road in Cobb County.

6:48 a.m.: The Fulton County Jail has canceled inmate visitation for Tuesday.

6:24 a.m.: Georgia Power reports about 1,400 customers without power, mostly in the Waynesboro and Swainsboro areas of the state. Another 640 EMC customers, mostly in middle Georgia, were also in the dark.

6:17 a.m.: Most of north and central Georgia, including all of metro Atlanta, remain under a freezing rain advisory through 9 a.m. The National Weather Service reported freezing drizzle and 29 degrees at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport at 6 a.m. Afternoon highs Tuesday should top out in the mid-30s, then the mercury plummets to the upper teens and low 20s Tuesday night.

6:10 a.m.: The state Department of Transportation issued a statement before daybreak Tuesday urging motorists to stay off I-285, sections of which are "log-jammed."

5:50 a.m.: Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is operating, but with limited schedules. Of the 44 Delta flights scheduled through 8 a.m., 35 have been canceled. All AirTran flights during that time period are listed as canceled.

5:25 a.m.: Atlanta police overnight responded to the Greyhound bus station downtown after receiving calls that passengers were stranded with no food, according to police spokeswoman Kim Jones. Police delivered blankets, bottled water and sandwiches that had been prepared by the city jail. "The riders were orderly and grateful for receiving the food," Jones said.

5:00 a.m.: Metro roadways remain dangerously icy, with the state Department of Transportation reporting stretches of several interstates impassable.

12:10 a.m.: The Atlanta Police Department reported a total of 368 accidents/road hazard calls, including accidents where citizens filled out the personal report form. APD is responding only to accidents where there are injuries, spokeswoman Kim Jones said. APD also reported road closures at West Peachtree at 10th streets and I-285 southbound from I-85 to I-20 eastbound. There are no power outages or lines down at the time, Jones said.

11:35 p.m.: MARTA cancels all bus service for Tuesday and warns of delays on trains. Rail service is to begin at 4:45 a.m. To follow changes, visit the MARTA website or call a recorded message at 404-848-5000.
