12:10 a.m.: The Atlanta Police Department reported a total of 368 accidents/road hazard calls, including accidents where citizens filled out the personal report form. APD is responding only to accidents where there are injuries, spokeswoman Kim Jones said. APD also reported road closures at West Peachtree at 10th Street and I-285 southbound from I-85 to I-20 eastbound. There are no power outages or lines down at the time, Jones said.
11:35 p.m.: MARTA cancels all bus service for Tuesday and warns of delays on trains. Rail service is to begin at 4:45 a.m. To follow changes, visit www.itsmarta.com or call a recorded message at 404-848-5000.
11:12 p.m.: Powder Springs City Hall will be closed Tuesday.
10:20 p.m.: Workers for the Georgia Department of Transportation have been out weathering the icy conditions, laying salt on the major roads. The interstates are their first priority, but smaller crews simultaneously work the larger state routes, according to DOT. They've cleared several previously impassable stretches of state highways such as Old National Highway and northbound I-85 at exit 166. But many spots remain impassable, such as the ramp from Ga. 400 to the North Springs MARTA station. The DOT is urging people to stay off the roads.
10:05 p.m.: A fire rescue truck in Cherokee County was dangling off the side of an icy road after slipping on the way to a fire. No one was injured in the accident, and the driver continued on foot to the fire in the Lake Arrowhead area, Tim Cavender, a spokesman for Cherokee Fire and Emergency, told the AJC.
9:55 p.m.: Electrical power for EMC customers has been restored across metro Atlanta but customers in remote areas of Georgia could remain without power into Tuesday, according to the Georgia EMC. The trade organization for customer-owned power companies said there are about 800 remaining EMC power outages.
9:38 p.m.: The courts and administrative offices in Johns Creek will be closed Tuesday, the city announces.
9:25 p.m.: No one was injured in that collision between a police unit and a tractor trailer on southbound I-75 at Canton Road, Marietta police spokeswoman Jennifer Murphy told the AJC. She said there had been several crashes in the vicinity and that the affected portion of the interstate would "more than likely" remain closed for the night. Drivers headed for Atlanta can detour onto Highway 41.
9:11 p.m.: Marietta police announced the closure of all southbound lanes of I-75 at Canton Road due to a crash involving a Marietta police unit and a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer was blocking all lanes, so motorists were being re-routed onto Highway 41.
8:35 p.m.: Most metro Atlanta Walmart stores are closing early Monday, the company says. They are expected to re-open Tuesday at the regular time of 10 a.m., but customers are urged to call before leaving home to make sure.
8:01 p.m.: Emory Healthcare will close all locations of The Emory Clinic Tuesday. This affects all clinic-based ambulatory surgical centers, transplant clinics, endoscopy units and the Pain Center at Midtown. "Announcements regarding scheduling and re-opening for the remainder of the week will be made as soon as possible, and we ask that patients contact their physician's offices to reschedule appointments later in the week," an Emory Healthcare spokesman said.
7:57 p.m.: The city administration and court system in Woodstock will shut down Tuesday because of impassable roads. The William G. Long Senior Center also will be closed, and Advanced Disposal will not be collecting trash.
7:56 p.m.: Add Emory University to the school closure list. The Emory hospitals remain open though.
7:55 p.m.: Marietta police have re-opened I-75 where it crosses over Roswell Road, but only the far right lane is passable. The bridge iced over and forced police to send travelers on a detour around it. Police in Marietta are urging people not to drive. "Roads remain very dangerous," they said.
7:40 p.m.: More Tuesday closures. The Decatur Schools will remain closed Tuesday, and students at the John Marshall Law School will have no classes.
6:45 p.m.: Peachtree Street is closed at 10th Street in Midtown. The road is a sheet of ice, Channel 2 Action News says.
6:34 p.m.: Cobb County's offices will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The county commissioner's meeting is canceled and has not yet been rescheduled.
6:20 p.m.: Georgia State University is closed Tuesday.
6:17 p.m.: Xpress Coach services will be canceled on Tuesday. The commuter transportation service will operate on a limited schedule Wednesday. That schedule will be announced by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
5:52 p.m.: All lanes are closed on I-75 North at the South Marietta Parkway in order to avoid any further accidents on the bridge over Roswell Road, which is completely iced over, Marietta police said. Motorists on I-75 will have to exit onto South Marietta Parkway. Police will then route vehicles to North Marietta Parkway and onto I-75.
4:57 p.m.: Clayton County schools are closed Tuesday.
4:49 p.m.: House and Senate leaders have canceled Tuesday's scheduled legislative meetings. The next session of the General Assembly begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
4:41 p.m.: Only one lane is open on I-285 East at Lake Forrest Drive west of Roswell Road exit, Sandy Springs Police said. Authorities are encouraging motorists to avoid the area until they can remove the large trucks that are blocking the road.
4:38 p.m.: Zoo Atlanta is closed Tuesday, a spokeswoman said.
4:36 p.m.: Fayette County schools are closed Tuesday.
4:35 p.m.: Georgia Gwinnett College will be closed Tuesday.
4:34 p.m.: Georgia's EMCs are reporting approximately 1,900 customers without power, a spokeswoman said. Those affected are in north and middle Georgia.
4:31 p.m.: Southern Polytechnic State University is closed Tuesday.
4:27 p.m.: MARTA is running single track from Hartsfield to the Five Points stop, causing delays.
4:26 p.m.: Georgia Tech has canceled classes for Tuesday.
4:25 p.m.: Kennesaw State University has canceled classes for Tuesday.
4:05 p.m.: The power outage affecting 1,300 Georgia Power customers in the Johns Creek area has been traced to a fallen tree on a power line on Montclair Way, off Boles Road, company spokesman John Kraft said. A crew is at the scene working to remove the tree and restore power, Kraft said.
3:55 p.m.: DeKalb County schools are closed Tuesday.
3:55 p.m.: Atlanta Public Schools are closed Tuesday.
3:51 p.m.: Paulding County schools are closed Tuesday.
3:36 p.m.: DeKalb County Parks and Recreation facilities and DeKalb County Recorders Court will be closed on Tuesday.
3:30 p.m.: AirTran Airways plans to begin operating at Hartsfield again Tuesday morning with a greatly reduced flight schedule. AirTran is urging customers scheduled to fly into or out of Hartsfield Tuesday to check the status of their flight at www.airtran.com prior to leaving for the airport.
3:27 p.m.: Gwinnett County schools are closed Tuesday.
3:23 p.m.: About 1,300 Georgia Power customers have lost service in the Johns Creek area mostly likely because of a tree falling on power lines, company spokesman John Kraft said. Statewide, about 5,300 customers have lost power, 2,000 of them in Macon and the surrounding area.
3:20 p.m.: Clarke County schools are closed Tuesday.
3:19 p.m.: The National Weather Service has canceled the Winter Storm Warning for North Georgia, which includes metro Atlanta, Channel 2 Action News Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns said. The warning has been replaced with a freezing rain advisory until 1 a.m., Burns said.
3:14 p.m.: Tonight's Woodstock City Council meeting has been postponed until Wednesday at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Woodstock Annex -- 12453 Highway 92.
3:07 p.m.: Cobb County schools are closed Tuesday, a spokesman said. School officials will make a decision Tuesday about the school board meeting planned for Wednesday morning.
2:56 p.m.: DeKalb County has suspended trash pick-up through Wednesday and will re-evaluate conditions for the rest of the week.
2:51 p.m.: All Publix Super Markets will close Monday at 4 p.m. and will reopen Tuesday at 9 a.m., a spokeswoman said.
2:51 p.m.: All Cherokee County schools will be closed Tuesday, January 11, due to inclement weather. After school and evening activities are also canceled.
2:50 p.m.: I-75 northbound is closed at South Marietta Parkway due to road conditions, authorities said. Several tractor trailers are blocking the roadway, and Marietta Police are handling several accidents at that location. Police are asking motorists that are on the roadway to use Highway 41 instead.
2:47 p.m.: Cobb County CCT will not run express bus service on Tuesday, Jan. 11 due to inclement weather. Local bus service is scheduled to begin at noon. Riders are advised to expect delays.
2:45 p.m.: DeKalb County's commission's meeting, scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, has been moved to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The DeKalb school board canceled its meeting Monday night, but has not announced a new date.
2:40 p.m.: Dozens of DeKalb roads remained closed, including the Clairmont Road bridge at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, the exit ramp at I-285 near the Indian Creek MARTA station and I-285 East between Candler Road and Bouldercrest Road.
2:12 p.m.: Fulton County schools will be closed Tuesday, Susan Hale, district spokeswoman, told the AJC. A school board meeting will be canceled.
2:05 p.m.: Most Fulton County government employees have been told not to report back to work until Wednesday. Essential personnel who fall under public safety, public works, emergency management, the medical examiner and general services are to check with their supervisors before leaving home Tuesday.
1:20 p.m. Most Fulton County government buildings closed at noon today, after County Manager Zachary Williams earlier advised employees to make reasonable efforts to report to work, using extreme caution.
1:15 p.m.: Carroll County schools cancel classes for Tuesday.
1:10 p.m.: University of Georgia cancels classes for Tuesday.
12:59 p.m.: The Fulton County Police Department, which covers unincorporated south Fulton, reports 24 accidents since 7 p.m. Sunday, none with fatalities or serious injuries, according to county spokeswoman Jessica Corbitt-Dominguez. The department has also had numerous calls about abandoned vehicles and stranded motorists. There have so far been no reports of downed trees or power lines in south Fulton. The department asks that non-emergency calls be placed to 404-730-7911, not 911.
12:55 p.m.: The University of Georgia has canceled classes for Tuesday.
12:36 p.m.: The State Board of Regents canceled Tuesday's meeting, spokesman John Millsaps said. The regents will tentatively meeting Wednesday and will discuss a shortened agenda, he said. The regents will decide Tuesday whether weather conditions will allow them to meet Wednesday, Millsaps said.
12:17 p.m.: FedEx has also suspended service in metro Atlanta today, spokesman Jim McCluskey said. McCluskey said the airports and roads have been affected by "a wintry punch" and the safety of FedEx employees is of the utmost importance."Ultimately, we will provide service when the conditions allow," he said.
12:11 p.m.: Emergency management officials in Cumming report snowfall accumulations across Forsyth County ranging from 5 to 7 inches. Next door in Cherokee County, authorities peg the snow accumulation at 7 inches near Waleska and 6.6 inches in Canton.
11:54 a.m.: Authorities in Rockdale County have shut down I-20 in both directions. A spokeswoman for the City of Conyers issued the following statement just before noon: "The Conyers Police Department is working with the Department of Transportation and they have decided to shut down I-20 east and westbound between exits 80 and 82 in Conyers at this time. The interstate is expected to remain closed for at least one hour if not more due to icy conditions and multiple accidents."
11:42 a.m.: UPS has canceled all package deliveries and pickups in metro Atlanta for Monday.
11:07 a.m.: The ramp from I-285 eastbound to I-75 southbound in Clayton County is shut down by a wreck involving two tractor-trailers. In DeKalb County, the ramp from I-285 to I-20 eastbound was closed by a truck wreck.
10:49 a.m.: Georgia Electrical Membership Corporation now reporting that 353 EMC customers in metro Atlanta are now without power, along with 258 EMC customers in middle Georgia.
10:38 a.m.: Emory Healthcare closed all locations of The Emory Clinic for the day. Emory hospitals, however, remained open.
10:26 a.m.: The Georgia Supreme Court is among the government entities closed Monday due to the snow storm.
10:14 a.m.: MARTA cancels all bus service for the day. In a statement, MARTA spokeswoman Cara Hodgson said, "Based on a thorough assessment of road conditions, MARTA has canceled all bus service for Monday. Bus service will be temporarily suspended for Tuesday until conditions improve enough to allow vehicles back onto the streets. MARTA will notify the public as soon as bus service can be resumed."
10:10 a.m.: Current conditions reported by the National Weather Service -- Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, freezing drizzle and 28 degrees; Marietta, freezing rain and 28; Charlie Brown Airport, freezing rain and 28.
9:53 a.m.: Georgia Power now reporting 6,000 customers statewide without power, with about 150 of those in metro Atlanta. The majority of the outages are in eastern and southern portions of the state. An additional 295 EMC customers are without power.
9:50 a.m.: DeKalb Board of Education cancels business meeting scheduled for 6 p.m.
9:45 a.m.: AirTran cancels all flights into and out of Atlanta.
9:44 a.m.: Northbound lanes of I-85 are shut down between Cleveland Avenue and Ga. 166 south of downtown due to several stalled tractor-trailers.
9:30 a.m.: While snow has piled up across metro Atlanta and other parts of north Georgia, the National Weather Service has reports significant accumulations of ice across the middle portion of the state. In Sandersville, 1 inch of ice was reported, while several towns received between a half and three-quarters of an inch of sleet and freezing rain.
8:25 a.m.: The Fulton County Jail has canceled all inmate visitation for the day.
8:00 a.m.: Georgia Power is now reporting about 4,000 customers without power, and a spokeswoman said the number is starting to grow. She said about 2/3 of the outages are on the west side of the state, in the Americus, Columbus and Albany areas, with the remainder in the Augusta area. Only about two dozen of the outages are in metro Atlanta. Meanwhile, the number of Georgia EMC customers without power has been reduced to about 200, mainly in the northwest corner of the state.
7:53 a.m.: Cobb Community Transit offiicials announced that no CCT buses will operate on Monday due to the weather. The agency had previously canceled Express bus service for the day.
7:50 a.m.: A Cherokee County sheriff's spokesman said that deputies responded to "only a handful" of wrecks overnight in the county, because most motorists had gotten off the roads before they became dangerously slick.
7:42 a.m.: The state Department of Transportation reported that between 6 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday, more than 900 DOT maintenance employees used 578 pieces of equipment to spread more than 2018 tons of salt and gravel material.
7:16 a.m.: MARTA officials had planned to begin bus service two hours late, at 7 a.m., but has decided to delay putting buses on the road until after daybreak "to better assess road conditions," spokeswoman Cara Hodgson said.
7:00 a.m.: The elevated ramps of Spaghetti Junction remain open, with the few motorists on I-85 and I-285 navigating the ramps very slowly.
6:55 a.m.: The ramp from I-285 southbound to South Cobb Drive is shut down by a wreck involving a tractor-trailer. The state Department of Transportation predicts it will be another hour before the ramp reopens.
6:45 a.m.: Most motorists appear to be heeding the warnings of public safety officials, as traffic on metro interstates is extremely light entering into what is normally the busiest part of the morning hush hour.
6:40 a.m.: Authorities have reopened I-85 in Coweta County.
6:33 a.m.: Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton reports that some parts of metro Atlanta are beginning to see breaks in the snow, but National Weather Service radar shows light precipitation still stretching back into Alabama, headed into Georgia.
6:27 a.m.: Georgia Electric Membership Corporation spokeswoman Terri Statham said the majority of the EMC customers without power are in Gordon, Whitfield, Walker and Chattooga counties. "Outages have been caused by heavy snowfall which is weighing down tree limbs causing them to fall on power lines," Statham said.
6:15 a.m.: Johnson Ferry Road is closed between Abernathy Road in Sandy Springs and Columns Drive on the Cobb County side of the Chattahoochee River.
6:10 a.m.: Georgia Power reports about 2,700 customers without power, but only a handful of those are in metro Atlanta. The bulk of the outages are in west Georgia, with about 800 outages in south Georgia and 770 in the northwest corner of the state. Another 600 EMC customers in north Georgia were without power before daybreak Monday.
5:53 a.m.: A light snow/sleet mix continued to fall in west Cobb County, where the snow accumulation was 5.5 inches.
5:45 a.m.: Snow accumulations reported by the National Weather Service include 7 inches in Walker County in the northwest corner of the state, 6 inches in Canton and 5 inches in Rome and near Athens.
5:25 a.m.: Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport reports that most flights scheduled for Monday morning are canceled. Of the 42 Delta Air Lines flights scheduled to depart between 6 and 8 a.m., all but 13 have been canceled, according to the airport's website.
5:12 a.m.: The AM 750 and Now 95.5 FM News/Talk WSB Traffic Center reports numerous treacherous spots on metro interstates, some on the northside and others on the southside. Among the problems: I-85 southbound in Coweta County is blocked by icy conditions from one mile north of Exit 47 to Exit 35, and the I-285 southbound ramp to Northlake Parkway is blocked by ice.
4:55 a.m.: Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. Curtis Davenport reports that officers will only be responding to accidents with injuries or entrapments. Davenport asked that those involved in non-injury crashes download and fill out the accident report available at www.dds.ga.gov/docs/forms/accident/pdf.
4:05 a.m. Report: I-85 Southbound is blocked from one mile north of Hwy. 34 (exit 47) to Hwy. 29 (exit 35). Use Hwy. 29 as an alternate.
3:44 a.m.: Reports of plenty of major roads and ramps blocked. Road closures here. Follow traffic updates on Twitter.
2:10 a.m.: MARTA will delay the start of bus service until 7 a.m., instead of the regular 5 a.m. The rail service will operate on its normal schedule and will begin at 4:45 a.m.
2 a.m.: Temperatures will stay in the 20s Monday, Meteorologist David Chandley said. Snow continues to fall in the northern suburbs.
1:05 a.m.: Department of Transportation cameras show traffic bumper-to-bumper and at a standstill on I-75 southbound south of Barrett Parkway in Cobb County.
12:35 a.m.: The snow falling across west Cobb County is punctuated by thunder and lightning.
