If you have an old outstanding parking ticket in Atlanta, it will cost less to pay it in early June.
The city and parking vendor ATLPlus are launching "Don't Get the Boot" to waive late penalties added to citations issued before March 24, 2017, reducing them to the original fine amount. The one-time-only program runs from June 1 to June 15.
Once the late penalty waiver program ends, all outstanding citation amounts will again include whatever late fees have been added. To pay for any citations or check to see if you have one, click here.
The program is being offered before ATLPlus launches new automatic license plate reader technology, advanced vehicle-mounted cameras that automatically checks license plates for payment of parking meters, time-restrictions, outstanding citations and permit zones.
The technology will be used to check for “scofflaw violators,” or people with three or more outstanding parking citations or more than $100 in fines. If a scofflaw violator is parked in an on-street parking space, they may be booted.
If a vehicle has been booted and all outstanding fees haven’t been paid in full within 24 hours, the vehicle may be towed.
The Don't Get the Boot program begins Friday, the day city officials will meet to discuss legislation that could lower the fees charged by booting companies to remove devices, among other changes.
