The Ponce de Leon library in Atlanta will close Monday at 6 p.m., part of a plan to renovate library branches throughout the Fulton County library system.

The library, at 980 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE, will get upgraded technology, new shelving, better layouts and other improvements, library director Gabriel Morley said.

Construction is expected to take six months.

Meanwhile, the county will reopen the Kirkwood branch, at 11 Kirkwood Road NE in Atlanta, Friday at 10 a.m. The reopening ceremony will include library tours and light refreshments, as well as a program in the new community meeting room.

The Kirkwood branch is the fifth to reopen of two dozen that are being renovated in the second phase of the library program.
