As August in Atlanta goes, this is about as good as it gets.
After several days of picture-perfect weather, with temperatures in the 80s, low humidity and cooler-than-average nights, there’s still no 90-degree heat in the immediate forecast.
Much of the summer has been a little cooler than normal, according to the National Weather Service.
So far, there’s been no triple-digit heat wave, and the mercury has barely cracked the mid-90 mark, topping out at 96 on June 27.
Since June 1, Atlanta’s high has hit 90 or above on 37 days, leaving 48 days when highs were only in the 80s.
July has been the coolest month of the summer, with highs reaching the 90s on only eight days, and an average temperature of 78.1 degrees -- 1.9 degrees below normal.
However, June’s average temperature of 79.8 was 3 degrees warmer than normal, according to the Weather Service.
August, so far, has continued the cooler trend that started in July, with the average temperature through Monday of 80 degrees being .7 degree below normal.
The forecast through the weekend calls for more of the same, with a slight chance of showers beginning on Thursday.
Tonight’s forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and lows in the mid-60s, forecasters said.
There’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon through Saturday. Highs will be in the mid-80s, with lows in the mid- to upper 60s.
The chance of rain increases to 40 percent on Sunday, when highs will again be in the mid-80s.
Monday will be partly cloudy and cooler, the Weather Service said, with lows in the low 80s.
