Atlanta Habitat for Humanity is building a new housing development in southeast Atlanta as a way to address the affordable housing concerns in the city.

The Browns Mill Village development project will cost $25 million, a spokeswoman with the organization said. Construction on the property will begin in fall 2020 and will be completed over the next three to five years.

Browns Mill Village is the first housing community from Atlanta Habitat, which broke ground on the 30-acre property earlier this week. The development will have one- and two-story homes with a community garden.

Once complete, the property will have 100 three- and four-bedroom homes, according to a news release about the development.

Residents can apply to the organization’s first-time homebuyer program and select a lot in the community during the application process.

The average prices for one-story and two-story homes at the community are $150,000 and $170,000, respectively, according to the release.

The organization raised more than $13 million ahead of the ground breaking as part of a $15 million capital campaign for the project. The funds will also support the organization’s home repair programs and land purchases to build or renovate homes.
