Two Atlanta police officers in separate vehicles were injured Saturday when one rear-ended the other as they tried to get onto I-20 westbound, according to a police department spokeswoman.
The accident occurred around 10 a.m. on the ramp from Maynard Terrace onto I-20, said spokeswoman Kim Jones .
The officer who caused the accident suffered a hand injury when the airbag in his vehicle deployed, Jones said. The officer in the vehicle that was hit was dazed and complained of neck and back pain. Both officers were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for observation.
She did not know whether the officers were answering a call when the accident occurred.
Nearly a dozen APD police cars and other emergency vehicles were on the scene. Traffic along I-20 moved slowly near the accident site.
