Gwinnett kids interested in law enforcement are in luck: the Gwinnett County Police Department has opened applications for its second annual Youth Police Academy.

The summer program is designed to teach middle and high school students about police work, including how police officers enforce local and state laws.

Students must write a 100-word essay describing why they want to attend the program in order to be admitted. Activities will include working with the K-9 and crime scene units, learning about gangs and exploring the role of aviation in police work.

The deadline to apply is May 26. The program runs from June 5 to June 9 for students entering sixth through eighth grades and from July 24 to 28 for students entering ninth through twelfth grades. Find the application here.
