Decatur’s Arlo development, wedged within Howard Avenue and Trinity Place, will open its first apartments in mid May according to Kent Collins, principal owner for Centro Development.

The city’s venerable Dairy Queen, now closed for nearly 26 months, will open on Arlo’s ground floor, just to the left of the parking entrance on Trinity. But as of Tuesday Collins remains uncertain when that will be.

“I’d like to say (DQ) will open in the summer,” Collins said. “But not until I hear that they actually have permits in hand (from the city) will I venture a guess. They’re supposed to get them in the near future.”

Arlo features 210 apartments, 80 percent of those one-bedroom, efficiency or live/work. Included in the 7,000 square feet of ground floor retail are one or possibly two restaurants, still undetermined, on the northeast corner. The stretch of Howard closed since construction began in Sept. 2014, will re-open, one-way west bound, probably by early summer. A mural with a still undetermined image will cover the 120 feet long, 40 feet tall parking garage facing Howard.
