An Atlanta bar sign that many say encourages sexual assault and rape has caused so much blowback that Yelp is now monitoring the venue’s page.

For many years, the sign in front of Mr. C’s Bar & Grill on Howell Mill Road has displayed different slogans, often of a suggestive, political or joking nature. But people feel that a recent phrase — “RUIN UR FUTURE SUPREME COURT CHANCES HERE — went too far.

The message is an obvious reference to sexual assault accusations against Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Three women have made such allegations, all of which Kavanaugh has denied. He and Christine Blasey Ford, a woman who says Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when the two were in high school in the early 1980s, are testifying in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

Requests for comment from the bar had not been returned Thursday morning.

Photos of the sign have circulated on the Internet, with many people leaving negative comments about the business on various websites. On its Facebook page, men and women appalled by the sign advocate for people not to patronize the bar, calling it misogynistic and disrespectful to women.

A  message on the Yelp page for Mr C's says the page is "being monitored by Yelp's Support team for content related to media reports."

"While we don't take a stand one way or the other when it comes to these news events, we do work to remove both positive and negative posts that appear to be motivated more by the news coverage itself than the reviewer's personal consumer experience with the business,"  Yelp's "Active Cleanup Alert" reads. It warns that posts left since Tuesday, Sept. 25 may be removed as part of the cleanup process, and refers people to post such thoughts on Yelp Talk instead.

The sign at the decades-old bar has reportedly been changed to say something else.
