I-85 and Ga. 316 construction nearly complete

Construction on I-85 at Ga 316 in Gwinnett County will be finished next week -- more than two months ahead of schedule.

The final two-mile stretch of the HOV lane on I-85 northbound (right) was being completed Wednesday. It runs from Sugarloaf Parkway to Ga. 317.

On the far left is the outside flyover bridge from Ga. 316 westbound to Pleasant Hill Road. The bridge is 2,602 feet long -- almost a half-mile.

The new lane will give motorists more room to merge on and off I-85.

A new HOV lane has improved the traffic flow southbound from Ga. 316 to I-85. Forty seven parcels totaling 30.7 acres were purchased for the project at a cost of $21.3 million.

Work crews pave the drainage ditch along the two-mile northbound lane from Old Peachtree Road to Ga. 317. An estimated 100,600 square yards or 20.7 acres of erosion control matting was used for the interchange reconstruction and HOV lane extension.
